Dear Friends,

Last week, Governor Chris Christie held a town hall in Vineland, New Jersey where he continued to talk about his plans to keep the Jersey Comeback moving forward, including a 10% across the board income tax cut for the hard working people of this state. The Governor believes that investing in the people of New Jersey is the best way to build for the future and he is fighting hard to make his plans reality.

Please watch the videos below and be sure to share them with your family and friends on Facebook and Twitter. Also, encourage them to support Governor Christie and his common sense reforms that have ignited the Jersey Comeback!

Minority Leader Alex DeCroce has died

By Darryl R. Isherwood| January 10th, 2012 - 1:09am

TRENTON – Assembly Minority Leader Alex DeCroce, 75, has died.

DeCroce collapsed about 11 p.m. Monday in the legislative wing of the Statehouse following a late-night voting session. Shocked lawmakers, aides, and operatives milled around as EMTs attended to DeCroce, who was said to have been feeling ill before leaving the chamber.

A visibly emotional Gov. Chris Christie met with legislative leaders shortly after the minority leader's death, hugging Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver in a long embrace and conferring with lawmakers in the Senate Majority office.

“Tonight I lost a dear friend, colleague and mentor – Assembly Republican Leader Alex De Croce," Christie said in a statement. "I have known Alex for nearly twenty years.  He helped to give me my start in elective politics in Morris County in 1993.  He was one of the most kind, considerate and trustworthy people I have ever had the pleasure to know.  He was an enormously accomplished legislator and a tremendous servant to the people of New Jersey.  Mary Pat and I offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Department of Community Affairs Deputy Commissioner Betty Lou De Croce, and to Alex’s entire family.  This is an enormous loss for our state and for me personally."

DeCroce's death comes a day before the governor is due to deliver the state of the state address.  Legislative spokesmen said the legislature will swear in new members and hold a brief reorganization at noon.  The swearing in scheduled for the Trenton War Memorial has been cancelled. The governor will deliver a brief statement to both houses at 1 p.m.

A mild-mannered leader, DeCroce was first elected to the Assembly in 1989 and served as deputy speaker from 1994 to 2001.

He also served as a Morris County freeholder from 1984 to 1989, serving for one year as freeholder director.

DeCroce was born in Morristown and lived in Parsippany-Troy Hills. He attended Seton Hall University and, aside from his legislative accomplishments, made his career as a Realtor at ERA Gallo & DeCroce.

Assemblyman Pete Biondi is dead

By Politicker Staff | November 10th, 2011 - 10:28pm

Veteran Assemblyman Pete Biondi (R-16) died tonight.

Mr. Biondi suffered from cancer and perservered in the face of his illness, winning re-election on Tuesday night.

Born in Newark, the assemblyman settled in Hillsborough and kept his well-trafficked office in downtown Somerville.

A throwback who enjoyed nurturing friendships on both sides of the aisle, Mr. Biondi was respected by his peers as a savvy politician.

The former mayor of Hillsborough presided over the 1990s construction of the township's impressive municipal building.

A great storyteller, vigorous conversationalist and horse lover, Mr. Biondi recalled how as a young man he used to take extended rides in Hunterdon County.

The proud Italian-American was a good-natured center of attention in Somerville taverns for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

An assemblyman since 1998, Mr. Biondi served as Republican Conference Leader through 2008 and as the Assembly's Assistant Republican Leader from 2002-2003.

FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN
GETS ITS "NEW JERSEY PREMIERE" - NOVEMBER 12TH

Documentary Looks At Lack of Two-Party System in Urban America
Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele Set for Q&A

Trenton, NJ -Shamrock Stine Productions, LLC has announced that its
first documentary feature film,
FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN will have both its "New Jersey Premiere"
and "Hometown Premiere" on Saturday November 12th, at 6 PM at the
New Jersey State Museum Auditorium, 205 West State Street in Trenton NJ.
A Q&A with former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael
Steele, the film's Director Kevin J. Williams and Producer Tamara E.
Williams will follow the Screening.  Preceding the Screening will be a
Kick-Off Reception beginning at 5 PM inside the New Jersey State Museum.
Tickets for the Reception and Screening/Q&A are $25.00 in Advance via
the film's website, www.fearofablackrepublican.com or $30.00 - "At
The Door."  Audience members are advised to arrive early and park
behind the Museum or on West State St.  The trailer for FEAR OF A BLACK
REPUBLICAN can be viewed on the film's website and on You Tube.

Director Kevin J. Williams said, "Our experiences in Trenton were the
impetus and inspiration for starting this film.  We cannot be happier
about finally premiering it in our hometown.  It will truly be a
celebration of our six plus years making this film and now being able to
show it to the world.  We are deeply honored to have one of film's
main participants, Michael Steele, join us at the screening.  We hope to
draw people from both sides of the aisle to our Screening and Q&A.  With
the 2012 Presidential Election heating up, it should be a very
interesting and fun night."  FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN makes its
"New Jersey Premiere" after screening in Atlanta GA (World
Premiere), Charlotte and Greensboro NC, Wilmington DE, Kansas City MO,
and Buffalo and Rochester NY.

Filmed and edited over a six year period, FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN
examines why there are so few Black Republicans and how this affects the
U.S. political system.  From the Civil War to the Great Depression, the
GOP was the Party for many African-Americans, but today, barely 10% of
African Americans consider themselves to be Republican and Urban areas
are no longer considered competitive parts of America's electoral map.
Beginning in his hometown of Trenton, NJ, filmmaker Kevin Williams
speaks with BOTH Democrats and Republicans while journeying over four
years and two Presidential Elections to find out if the Two-Party
Political System is failing his city and the country.  In taking a
self-critical look at his own Republican Party, Williams explores the
GOP's efforts in urban areas versus the suburbs, the Democratic
Party's success in retaining the African-American vote and the
experiences of Black Republicans with Democrats and their own Party.
The result is a moving film which reveals a world that audiences won't
likely forget.

During this journey, Williams speaks with scholars such as Princeton
University Professors Cornel West and Howard Taylor; political leaders
like former Maryland Lieutenant Governor and Republican Party Chairman,
Michael Steele and previous RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman; former New Jersey
Governor Christine Todd Whitman; Presidential candidates Mike Huckabee,
Mitt Romney, Jim Gilmore and John McCain; Conservative thinkers such as
Newt Gingrich, Grover Norquist and Ann Coulter; and Commentators Tavis
Smiley and Michelle Malkin, amongst others.  Also interviewed is the
first and last Black Republican Senator popularly elected since
Reconstruction, former Senator Edward Brooke of Massachusetts.

Williams states, "Before I started shooting, I was just a voter
wondering why things weren't getting better after each election.
Picking up my camera changed everything for me.  My intention with this
film is to find out if our political system supports the decaying of
Urban America, what that means and what if anything can be done about
it.  Journeying across the country and spending time with an important,
but misunderstood segment of our society - Black Republicans, revealed a
reality and an experience few will ever see.  As race, politics, human
nature and history all clash in this film, I know that as the Director,
I am only opening the book on this subject matter and its implications
for America."

Mercer County Executive announces start of Home Heating Season

MEDIA CONTACT: Julie Willmot
(609) 278-7137

TRENTON, N.J.
- With winter cold just around the corner, Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes is reminding residents that assistance is available for energy costs for those who qualify. The County’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) allows individuals meeting various income qualifications to apply for bill payment assistance, energy crisis assistance, and energy-related home repairs.

“For many households, winter brings worry about the cost of heating and other energy bills,” said Hughes. “As this year’s program gets under way, I also urge our residents to look into simple ways they can reduce their energy costs such as using fluorescent light bulbs and weather-stripping doors and windows.”

The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently reported that on average, heating bills will increase slightly this winter compared to last year. EIA expects households heating primarily with heating oil to spend an average of about $220 (12 percent) more this winter than last winter, while households heating primarily with natural gas are expected spend an average of $27 (4 percent) more this winter. However, homes heating primarily with electricity can expect to spend an average of $18 (2 percent) less.

However, the EIA also cautioned that fuel expenditures for individual households are highly dependent on local weather conditions, the size and efficiency of individual homes and their heating equipment, and thermostat settings. Hughes urges people to be extremely careful if using an alternative heat source, such as fireplace, wood burning stove, kerosene heater or space heater, to reduce energy costs.

Individuals meeting various income qualifications can apply for bill payment assistance, energy crisis assistance, and energy-related home repairs. Last year’s clients can expect to receive a recertification form within the first week of the heating season which begins on November 1, 2011. New clients, as well as returning clients, can contact the Office at (609) 989-6858 or 989-6959. Monies are from the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Department of Health and Human Services, and funding levels are established annually. The program runs from November 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012.

Please note: All Mercer County offices will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 for Election Day and Friday, November 11, 2011 for Veterans Day. Information on the LIHEAP and Weatherization Programs are also available at all nine branches of the Mercer County Library System, at the Mercer County website, and at 640 South Broad Street, Trenton, NJ.

“After seeing the devastation to Mercer County from this storm today, we decided something needed to be done to help our residents,’’ Castelize said. “There is a time for politics and a time to campaign. This is not one of those times. We all need to come together and take the time to help those affected by this costly and tragic event.’’
